A few weeks ago I met up with a few ladies from all walks of social media to talk about jobs that fit our influencer lifestyle. From foods, makeup, fashion, and being women of color, we wanted to be able to have safe space to talk about our goals and what sort of brands we want to associate ourselves with and how to approach a corporate/capitalist world. Our world’s views are ever changing and we’re very social media centric, meaning our views, politics, and everyday life are on display. There’s line of professionalism and personalization we still want and need to present to our audience but brands as well. This really updated me on our culture of what today’s corporate world needs and how we can fill in the gap without compromising ourselves.

Shout out to Meet in Place! Thank you so much for this!

Meet in Place offers private and serviced meeting spaces at reasonable costs. They provide a setting that is both modern and professional and with complimentary water (still and sparkling) and C O F F E E, my girls and I felt welcomed and ready to talk about our goals. With each room having high-speed wifi and beautiful flat screen tvs, it made presentations a breeze without the extra work of plugging in wires and cables.

As a freelance make-up artist who hopes to create their own brand, these rooms are perfect for business meetings with clients and social networking events. This was my first time here and I’m excited to know there is a place that I can set up personal connections in a professional and aesthetically pleasing space rather than at your local Starbucks. I hope to hold my own networking event involving PoC makeup artists and models here one day *fingers crossed*.

Ocean’s 8 Project- Constance’s Slick Style

fashion, makeup

Your girl is finally back. Out of college and thrusted into the adult world. But don’t think I didn’t come prepared! What better way to introduce a new post but with a little help from my friends!

This is my first beauty/ style collab and my first post in 4 years. I wanted my blog to mix my passion for makeup and fashion as a way to empower women. I’ve grown a lot from college to now and I think it’s pretty fitting that my first collab involves Ocean’s 8 and these strong women of different races and body types, I had the pleasure of not only doing their makeup but also share the camera with.

I wanted to start the series off with the character that I connected with the most and maybe it’s because I knew of Awkwafina back in her music days before she started acting or that we’re both from Queens. (It’s definitely because we’re both from Queens) But with a few *blockbuster* movies coming out featuring her in the main cast, Awkwafina is upcoming and is finally getting the recognition she deserves.

Constance is many things; she’s loud and brash but quick witted and funny. You might think she’s high most of the time…and maybe she is but she’s quick and executes her job very well. She’s a millennial so her style is very NYC urban and we felt recreating the outfit from the now iconic subway shot was the way to go.

The pink jacket obviously gave off ‘Pink Lady’ vibes but instead of leather and skin tight tops, Constance kept it casual with a dark neutrals of a black tee and burgundy skinny jeans. Below, I paired a pink satin jacket from Ellos with a black tee from Torrid (obviously repping the message) and skinny burgundy jeans also from Ellos. Instead of her signature beanie and it being almost summer, I opted for a pink baseball cap. I also kept it casual with black sneakers because your girl needs to stay comfortable while on the run. A little extra ‘oomph’ were my ‘gold’ hoops, paying homage from where the character and I are from: Queens. Check out Brooklyn or Queens and every girl either owns or has own a pair of those earrings, it’s just part of the culture.

Being a makeup artist, I wanted to do my spin of Constance’s makeup. While Constance is low maintenance, she’s loud and present. A graphic blue cat eye is simple and easy but bold and colorful, just like her personality.

I used Fenty Beauty foundation in 300 for that my skin but better look and swiped on Fenty Gloss Bomb. I also used Fenty’s Island Bling 2-1 Liquid Eye Shimmer in Mamacita/ Tini Kini on the lids. I’m basically an advertisement for Fenty. (Notice me, Rihann-senpai)
